Sometimes, otolaryngologist things go missing.  Your keys, your pet frog, your virginity at that 98 Degrees concert. Or in case of former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi, 300 million dollars in stock. Luckily, Nintendo has a trick up it’s sleeve – a wily yet cantankerous crimefigther by the name of Mauchilock.

Though he may look docile, he has the heart of a samurai. On his desk. And if you gamer sissies give him any lip, he’ll boot your company from his platform for the next decade.

Also on this week’s show, we discuss the role of non-video gaming, Blake gets bitten by spiders, and Justin Fic gives us some details on his new game, Kung Fu Killforce.  If you want a sneak peak, be sure to check it out in the forums.

Sure, cystitis
everybody knows internet funnyman Blake Buck. Professional podcaster, standup comedian, and top pick of his graduating class for ‘Most Likely to Become and Alcoholic’. But few people know of his forerunner, the legendary Ben Buck.

In many ways, Ben Buck is like the beta version of Blake Buck.  While similar at first glance, he’s not quite as quick, doesn’t have as many features, and is definitely more bulky. But then again, Blake is more often covered in bugs.  At the very least, Ben Buck makes a fine substitute for William Miller this week, who is still trapped in a box of Captain Crunch.

Also this week, Justin Fic and Blake Buck reminisce on some of their favorite classic arcade games, and discuss how perhaps games today have lost touch with the importance of controls and innovation that defined the arcade era.

Global warming, recuperation
the economic crisis, unhealthy
and the collective works of Coldplay.  All disasters that the knowledge of Blake Buck has help thwart.  But even the great Lord Buck is not above the occasional product sponsorship.

This video represents my favorite way to shoot – starting off simple within the confines of the premise, and ending with something that is completely removedfrom the source.  While this is the third, and for now final “Treasured Moment”, I’m sure we’ll see a few more videos along these lines in the future.

World renowned scholar and statesmen Lord Buck makes his second video appearance, buy this time detailing the problems plaguing the book publishing industry.

I think number two is my favorite – as it probably makes the most sense.  But who needs that as long as it’s funny?

Oh, abortion
it’s so good to see you Mister Farthington.  Please, let me take your coat.  Yes, of course – Lord Buck will be delivering his wisdom today a 2 o’clock sharp.  Please take a seat in the parlor and have a drink, Lord Buck will be out shortly.

And remember, VJ always equals NO.

Talk about ancient! This video was recorded in the fall of 2003, cheap
and edited down and uploaded when we started Best Damn Podcast Ever in the fall of 2006.

Miller and I went to a residential high school, tadalafil where we had just enough free time to make some bad decisions. In this video, we recount a tale from our days in high school. Is it a glorious battle between two warriors, determined to seal their fate? Or two immature high school kids acting retarded

TWO MEN ENTER ONE MAN LEAVE.

It’s the fall of 2006 – back when Crocs were the hip new footwear, Sildenafil
Nintendo Wii’s were nigh impossible to find, and dinosaurs roamed the earth.  It’s at this time that William Miller and I took a trip up to New York to visit our pals Justin Fic, Bruce, and Steve Tze at Freeverse Software.

Again, looking back now, this video feels a bit long and dated, but we had a lot of fun and clearly established ourselves as the assholes of the party.

We came in search of the American Dream – we left with our asses beaten in Guitar Hero and a bad hangover.  Or perhaps, Guitar Hero and excessive drinking isn’t too far off.

No video I have ever made has created as much hate as the one positioned above this sentence.

It’s Winter 2006. BDPE needs another video. So I thought, order
what if William Miller and I played a video game together, prescription have a few laughs, record it, and put the funny stuff into a video?  Seems like a fine enough idea.  In fact, I still to this day believe there are some really funny parts of this video.

However, in a half-hearted attempt to promote our site, I posted this video on the forums of SomethingAwful.com .  That was not a wise decision.  After a several hour flame fest, featuring a wide variety of foul language and grotesque photoshops of my face, I realized that gaining listeners through forum promotion is about as useful as shooting yourself in the dick.

Below are a couple of my favorite photoshops from said flame fest:

Ah, the internet. I love and hate you.  All at the same time.

Ah, cardiologist
nothing beats the smell of dead Nazis in the morning. They should make that an incense, so I can enjoy it anytime. Anyway, here’s a video review I did of Call of Duty 2 for InsideMacGames.com waaaay back in the day (fall 2006). Though it feels a bit crude to me now, it’s got some solid jokes in it. So click that little play button already. Or don’t. Who do you think you are, buster?

Another early work of Best Damn Podcast Ever in the Fall of 2006. This video actually turned out to be our most popular for quite a long time.

Segata Sanshiro is one of those things you happen upon the internet one day and you’re not really sure what it is, rx
but you know it’s awesome. This short documentary traces the life and death of one of the greatest video game advertising icons ever.

By the end of 1997, viagra order
the Sega Saturn had completely failed in the United States, and Japanese sales were in trouble as well. Sega knew it had to come up with a genius marketing plan to stay competitive. And there was only one man for the job: SEGATA SANSHIRO.

At the time I made this video, these clips were quite hard to come by, and I thought the only responsible thing to do would be to compile as many of them as I could and give some backstory.

Gran Turismo. Forza Motorsport. Project Gotham Racing. What do all these racing games have in common? THEY AREN’T COMPLETE ASS.

This video was produced when I was working at InsideMacGames.com in the fall of 2006.  It was a preview for Ambrosia Software’s new racing game, shop Redline. It features crap footage of the game juxtaposed with quotes taken from the developer’s website. It was never released, after Ambrosia and IMG management deemed it, “Too Much”

Alright, human enhancement
this one is a classic – the summer of 2006. Before there was BIG HOT SHO, more about
before there was Best Damn Podcast Ever, patient there was the Inside Mac Games Podcast. A podcast, about gaming, on the Mac. I know, right? Well hindsight is 20/20, but we still had a lot of fun. This video was a sort of promo for that show.

Here at BIG HOT SHO, we’re big fans of MANLY MEN. And at the time of this video, the most manly man I knew was THE COUGAR. He was the head electrician on a couple of film shoots I worked on. He was always telling us stories of drinking with John Woo when he worked on Hard Target and having sex with his Philippino wife he plucked out of some native village.

I snapped a photo of him with my camera phone one day and we soon figured, who better to defend Mac gamers from a sea of crap games?

Look how dumb the Xbox looks.
So you’ve bought youself and shiny new Xbox 360, look
the envy of every sweaty nerd in your apartment complex. The back of the box even says it can play your old Xbox games! This truly is the next generation of gaming.

But not so fast, son; I know what you’re saying. “But if I play my Xbox games on the 360, I’ll have to start all over! I’ll lose my 60 hours of progress in Bad Boys 2!”

Fear not fellow Will Smith and Martin Lawrence fans! Because today I’ll be giving you the complete how-to on transferring Xbox gamesaves to Xbox 360. This method is 100% legit, and dose NOT involve any hardware modification, voiding of warranties, or even any technical skills. But be warned…

Transferring Xbox gamesaves to Xbox 360 is a lot of hassle, costs around $75 dollars, and will NOT WORK WITH A LARGE PORTION OF GAMES. First, let’s talk about compatibility.

Part One: Compatibility

The Xbox game you wish to transfer must meet ALL of the following criteria to be trasnferred to the 360:

1. You have the hard drive for your Xbox 360 and a connection to Xbox Live.
2. The Xbox 1 game must be backwards compatible on the Xbox 360. A current list of compatible games can be found here.
3. Xbox 1 game save must be able to fit on an Xbox 1 Memory Card (8 Megs – 502 Blocks).
4. Xbox 1 game save must be “unlocked”, that is, transferrable to an Xbox 1 Memory Card (some game saves do NOT allow you to trasnfer even if you have enough room).

* To find out if your Xbox 1 saves meets the last two requirements, boot up your 360 with a memory card in and test it out.

These four requirements eliminates a large portion (if not the majority) of games. I found that the games I wanted to transfer most failed at least one of these steps. Mercenaries – fails on step 2. Black – fails on step 4. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory – fails on step 3. Mechassault 2 – fails on step 2. Burnout 3 – fails on step 4.

That’s not to say it won’t work with any games however. Of the games I wanted to transfer, Halo 1, Halo 2, Crimson Skies, and Sid Meier’s Pirates worked fine. So if you’ve got a game that will transfer, it’s time for the next step.

Part Two: Xbox 1 to PC

This is dumbReal dumb.

For this you’ll need one of two parts: An Xbox Action Replay or an Xbox Transfer Kit. Both are made by Datel and do exactly the same thing, but the Action Replay costs $25 and comes with a memory card transfer cable (MCTC) and a memory card, while the Transfer Kit costs $15 and comes with an Xbox 1 MCTC and a 360 MCTC (but because Xbox 1 saves are locked to the hard drive, you won’t be able to transfer via this cable). I could only find the Transfer Kit at my local Gamestop, so I picked up the memory card seperate for $10.

Once you have the required hardware and have installed the Action Replay software (included with either kit), complete the follwing steps:

1. Copy Xbox 1 save to Memory Card
2. Transfer Saves to PC Via Cable and Included Software
3. Locate the .zip file containing the save you want to transfer and extract them to a temporary directory for use later.(The location of the .zip file depends on where you installed the Action Replay software)
4. Delete the file datelinfo.xbx from any .zip files you extract.

If you’ve gotten this far without falling asleep, you’re doing better than most.

Part Three: PC to Xbox 360

For this you’ll need yet another, even more pricey ($50) part: the XSATA. This device goes between your 360 and the 360 hard drive, and allows you to mount the hard drive to a PC (perhaps even a Mac, though I never tested this), and the included software allows you to access the data on the 360 hard drive via your PC. Once everything’s hooked up and installed, follow these steps:

1. Turn on your 360 and pop in the game you want to transfer. The required updated will download to your hard drive and you should now be able to play the game (without your saves that is).
2. Turn off the 360 and mount the drive to your PC using the instructions provided with the XSATA unit.
3. Navigate to the “Compatibility” folder on Partition 3 of your 360′s hard drive.
4. Right click in the right hand window and choose ‘Insert folder’.
5. When prompted, browse to the location where you extracted the Xbox 1 gamesave to (in Part 2 Step 3). Click ONCE on the game folder (don’t double click or you’ll open it). The save is inside the UDATA folder and called something like ’4b4e0002′.
6. Click ‘OK’ to ‘inject’ the gamesave into your Xbox1 gamesaves folder on your Xbox 360.

You should now be able to unmount the 360 hard drive from your PC, boot up the 360, and play your old Xbox 1 saves on your 360. Now to just return all this crap Gamestop.

It’s the fall of 2006 – back when Crocs were the hip new footwear, diagnosis
Nintendo Wii’s were nigh impossible to find, decease
and dinosaurs roamed the earth.  It’s at this time that William Miller and I took a trip up to New York to visit our pals Justin Fic, buy
Bruce, and Steve Tze at Freeverse Software.

So I thought, nurse
what if William Miller and I played a video game together, have a few laughs, record it, and put the funny stuff into a video?

Another early work of Best Damn Podcast Ever in the Fall of 2006. This video actually turned out to be our most popular for quite a long time.

Segata Sanshiro is one of those things you happen upon the internet one day and you’re not really sure what it is, order but you know it’s awesome. This short documentary traces the life and death of one of the greatest video game advertising icons ever.

By the end of 1997, the Sega Saturn had completely failed in the United States, and Japanese sales were in trouble as well. Sega knew it had to come up with a genius marketing plan to stay competitive. And there was only one man for the job: SEGATA SANSHIRO.

At the time I made this video, these clips were quite hard to come by, and I thought the only responsible thing to do would be to compile as many of them as I could and give some backstory.

before there was Best Damn Podcast Ever, there was the Inside Mac Games Podcast.

While poking around the internet today, medicine I read a rather poorly written article about the excess of sequels in the gaming industry today. The article reports that Electronic Arts released 26 games in 2005, website like this
25 of which were sequels
. The article continues on to state this is due to the increase of online communities, piggybacking successful features of original titles, and the comfortable mechanics of a familiar title.

However, where I really think this article misses the mark is the role of intellectual properties in the gaming industries today. In 1987, you’re average hit game was developed by a team of 15 people or so and sold around 500,000 copies. In 2007, you’re average hit game is developed by hundreds of people and sells 5 million copies. And since the gaming industry has grown to such a massive business, multi-medium tie-in’s and cross promotion has now plays an integral role – just like it does in all other businesses. Observe the graphic below:

I love you.

Obviously, you’d buy the more familiar and tasty looking T.G.I. Friday’s Buffalo Wings, rather than the buffalo wings you don’t know anything about. Odds are, the Friday’s Wings probably aren’t even remotely like the one’s you’d get at the restaurant, yet because of a strength of the Friday’s name, they seem much more appealing.

The same holds true in the gaming industry. People latch on to an idea they are famliar with, usually referred to as an Intellectual Property (IP). And strong IP’s are the driving force behind the majority of sales in the gaming industry: Mario, Star Wars, Solid Snake, Judge Dredd, etc. So let’s examine the top 8 sellers for the entire video game industry for the month of August.

Top Software for August (by Units)

1. PS2 Madden NFL 07 – 1,012,000
2. 360 Madden NFL 07 – 569,000
3. 360 Dead Rising – 337,000
4. XBX Madden NFL 07 – 253,000
5. PS2 Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus – 200,000
6. NDS New Super Mario Bros. – 179,000
7. PS2 NCAA Football 07 – 160,000
8. PS2 Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories – 102,000

As you can see, all but one of these games is either a sequel or based upon an existing franchise. The one exception is Dead Rising on the Xbox 360, which Microsoft has been heavily advertising over the past few months to drive up it’s otherwise slow software lineup for the summer.

Another great example of the stregnth of IP is the Cars game, which shot to the top of the charts upon it’s release in late June. Even though gamers had never played a cars game before, the stregnth of the name and simultaneous release with the film generated far greater sales than any original game with unique gameplay.

In the end, the masses will buy what they like – which usually turns out to be the same thing over and over again. But this isn’t a new development, original games have always taken a back seat to more widely-appealing commercial titles. So go ahead, buy Final Fantasy XIII-2: Dirge of Bahamut, just keep an eye out for new original games as well.

On this week’s show we’re changing up the format a bit. The BDPE crew talks about the crumbling PS3 launch, cheap
Harmonix going corporate, Japanese narrative and it’s role in gaming, and John Romero’s status as the biggest tool on earth.  In addition we have a new section: JANK OF THE WEEK – this is where we bring you guys the best bargains on great games.  Finally, we’ve ditched the liveshow in favor of our old format show – though we’ll still have a liveshow bonanza every once in a while.

We're totally not gay.

It’s September 2005. The United States is suffering from a terrible post-industrial depression and the west is still a wild and untamed frontier. Subversive communists are at every corner, healthful and in the streets women burn their brassieres in an act of defiance. The world is in chaos.

there’s been a bit of a dought of new shows around TBDPE lately. So to hold us over, healthful
we’ll be posting a few of our old IMG shows (back before he who must not be named took over). Here’s the description of each episode:

Episode 31

Episode 32

Episode 33
It’s the last episode of the podcast with Blake Buck, William Miller, or Justin Fic as hosts! The shock! The horror! But Tuncer and Andy Largent will keep the show rolling, and you can check out the old crew’s new podcast at BEST DAMN PODCAST EVER.COM .

You’ll find these shows as optional downloads at the bottom of the feed (we’ve dated them back to their actual release date), so if you’re using iTunes, scroll to the bottom of your BDPE feed and click “Get” to download.

Bruce, and Steve Tze at Freeverse Software.

Again, looking back now, this video feels a bit long and dated, but we had a lot of fun and clearly established ourselves as the assholes of the party.

No video I have ever made has created as much hate as the one positioned above this sentence.

It’s Winter 2006. BDPE needs another video. So I thought, nurse
what if William Miller and I played a video game together, have a few laughs, record it, and put the funny stuff into a video?  Seems like a fine enough idea.  In fact, I still to this day believe there are some really funny parts of this video.

However, in a half-hearted attempt to promote our site, I posted this video on the forums of SomethingAwful.com .  That was not a wise decision.  After a several hour flame fest, featuring a wide variety of foul language and grotesque photoshops of my face, I realized that gaining listeners through forum promotion is about as useful as shooting yourself in the dick.

Below are a couple of my favorite photoshops from said flame fest:

In addition, Episode 4 (the MEGAMAN MEGA-SHOW) should be posting in a few days as well, so keep an eye out!

I know it’s hard to believe. Just ask Tuncer Deniz. But seriously, malady with Valve officially behind the Mac as a legitimate platform, maybe the Mac gaming industry won’t be limited to Magic Vines and Diner Dash.

Sure, I know what you’re saying. His Arabian Powers will quickly destroy BDPE and BHS. You’re probably right, as I often dream of Tuncer when I picture armageddon.

Also this week we discover that GAKIGATE has finally come to a close, we judge Chime on XBLA and Viva Pinanta: Trouble in Paradise, reveal the relatively unknown treasure of Shoot 1UP, discuss Infinity Ward’s designer shakeup, and finally get to some feedback.

Finally, if you’d like to discuss this week’s episode, hit us up on the forums.

I drink money. The iPad is officially out, skincare
but the BDPE crew is skeptical to give it a full endorsement. Except for Fic, who’s paycheck is directly proportionate to the number of Apple products shipped per quarter.

Also on this week’s show we continue to gush over Borderlands, Microsoft continues to for you buy your games over and over, and Martin Sheen commands you to play Mass Effect 2. And apparently, the clan is back – lock your doors.

Someone owes me royalties.BDPE IS BACK! If I had a dollar every time I said that, sovaldi
I’d be making a living in a very unusual way.

In all seriousness, information pills
because of travel and all that family bullshit, the holidays alway seem to be a difficult time for us to record shows. Thankfully the annual alcohol induced haze from Thanksgiving to New Years has past, and more heat is warming up them pipes.

We talk about so much garbage this week I don’t even want to list it all. EA, the NFL, DJ Hero, Activision, and the responsibilities of being a large publisher. We also discuss good games MW2 showed back into first quarter 2010, and give an overview of today’s most influential titles in porn gaming.

Also on this week’s show we talk releases, micro-judgment Lego Indiana Jones 2, Dragon Age, Zelda Spirit Tracks, and Borderlands DLC.

“I’m gonna sign an exclusivity deal of my dick to your mouth”

Editor’s Note: We never actually had shownotes for this show.  And I’m typing this up in April 2011, look a year and a half after we recorded and posted it.  So I have no idea what we talked about on this show.  If anybody gives it a listen, send us an email at feedback at bestdamnpodcastever dot com, let us know what we talked about and I’ll update the shownotes.

So happy...Video games sure are a lot of fun. Shootin’ guns, glands
drivin’ trucks, stomach
realtimin’ strategies – there are so many ways to be entertained. But it’s easy to forget the video games industry is a business. And not just a business – a multi-billion dollar, ampoule
light my cuban cigar with a burning hundred dollar bill, global juggernaut of entertainment, business.

Bobby Kotick, current CEO of Activision, is one of those cigar-smoking, scotch-swilling barons that is stifling the creativity of the industry. Not only that, he’s making an ASSLOAD of that paper along the way. So this week we discuss the role of business vs. creativity in the gaming industry.

Also on this week’s show Miller EA tells Pandemic “It’s not you, it’s me“, Modern Warfare 2 censored in Russia – Zangief upset, and triple A sequels sell like gangbusters while original IP’s flounder (sorry Tim Schafer). We also review the new Xbox Live update with Facebook and Twitter, giving us something to do on Xbox Live besides waste money on avatars when we’re drunk.
